On April 1ST 2000 two credit unions merged to form the First Choice Credit Union, Elgasco Credit Union, which was formed as a corporation in 1940 and the Lowell Electric Light Employees Credit Union that was formed in 1941. Elgasco served the employees, retirees and the families of Bay State Gas Company and Massachusetts Electric Company, while Lowell Electric provided services to the New England System. Over the years the companies grew. They took on the subsidiaries of Northern Utilities Energy USA and Granite State along with New England Power Systems, Bay State Gas is now a Nisource company along with Northern Utilities. The staff of Energy USA although sold from Nisource still remains within our membership and sphere of operation. Massachusetts Electric, Granite State, New England Power Systems, and Keyspan now come under the umbrella of National Grid USA and Keyspan with more positive changes and additions to our neighborhood of members are certain to follow. Because of changes to our bylaws approved by the division of banks we can now offer you the opportunity to become part of our family.
To be part of the family you must be employed or associated with the gas, oil, electric, or communication companies, or utility industry. As a member you can include your immediate family such as your wife, husband, daughter, son, grandchildren, step children, mother, father, daughter-in-law son-in-law, sister. brother, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, niece or nephew, other family members are also eligible.
As you can see, you can think of this membership as a family tree.
In order to open a membership and become a "shareholder", you must deposit $15.00. You may then make deposits in a manner convenient to you; payroll deduction, direct deposit, by mail or at the office.
Simply complete the on-line request form by clicking the link below, and we will send you an application/membership card. Please return this card to the Credit Union office along with a copy of a picture ID, as we now
document members' identity.
